“Why I hate straight men,” a thread by me. Congrats, you assholes. You just scared me to fucking death. You know what’s the worse bit? Feeling helpless because you know that you can’t risk angering them. That’s it. That’s the worst fucking part.

That’s actually a really intetesting intpretation of it I hadn’t thought of. Most people seem to think Athena turned Medusa into a gorgon as punishment for defiling her temple, but thinking that she did so to protect her from being abused again is interesting and I like it!

Athena’s hands were tied. Yes, she was a powerful Goddess, but she was very much a woman in a “boys club”, and the true offending party (don’t think for a moment that Athena blamed Medusa for being raped in the temple, Athena knows better) held all the cards. There was nothing that Athena could do to punish the true criminal, and she was expected to punish Medusa by everyone else. What’s a Goddess to do when she cannot punish those who need to be punished and is expected to punish not only the truly innocent party, but her most beloved follower? Use that incredible brain power she had to protect Medusa at all costs, and of course the men would see it as punishment, to be have her beauty stripped from her and sent to live in the shadows. Medusa should have been KILLED for supposedly defiling the temple, whether she truly did or not, but she was given the gift of life, and the ability to protect herself and her daughters (who she bore thanks to Poseidon). This is why Medusa’s image was used to signify woman’s shelters and safe houses.

Medusa means “guardian; protectress”, and she was.

Dream Daddy lets you play as a trans person — and fans are raving about it

  • If you’re transgender, it’s not easy to find a game with a character who’s like you. It’s even rarer to be able to play as one.
  • That’s why Dream Daddy, a new, trans-inclusive indie adventure game in which you play a hunky dad who romances other hunky dads, is an important step forward.
  • Mic spoke to trans players about what it felt like to finally see themselves represented in a video game — and why it matters. Read more (7/25/17)

Representation is so important.

As a hetero cis white guy in America, pretty much everything in popular media caters to people like me, so I just took representation for granted.

It makes me so happy to see that people who are not like me are finally getting an opportunity to experience the same kind of representation in games and other media that I have had the privilege to take for granted my entire life. It’s long overdue.

I was so pleasantly surprised at this when we started our playthrough.

IF YOU CAN READ THIS WITHOUT FEELING A WARM BUBBLE OF HUMAN JOY IN YOUR HEART I DON’T KNOW WHAT TO DO FOR YOU

(Also I was so confused for a while because the OP totally missed a number in the thread but the story is so precious I forgive them)

This is adorable and hilarious!

Okay, so I found out more about this story/tale.

First, it is originally an Armenian folktale called “Clever Anaeet”. But I haven’t found more information unfortunately about the original story.

There is a version of it though in “The Fabrics of Fairytales” by Tanya Batt. It is actually a collection of various fairytales and is relatively short (80 pages according to Goodreads).

However, I think this post is referring to the picture-book adaption of the same story,
“A Weave Of Words” by Robert D. San Souci.

I hope this helps anyone who wants to read it for themselves or look into this further.

@rejectedprincesses
don’t you have an entry about this woman in your book or on your website? I feel like I read it somewhere…

Yep, right here! It’s based off an Armenian fairytale called Anahit, collected in 1881 by  Ghazaros Aghayan.

This Twitter thread has been going around and I’ve been tagged a couple times – I suspect I need to do tweetstorms like this for RP entries, instead of just a couple pics and a link to the entry.

I have a chicken named Noodle and she’s a bit under the weather and all she ever wants to do is cuddle. It’s past chicken bedtime and she was having trouble sleeping alone, so I took her out for a snuggle and she fell asleep with her head laying on my chest and she made the softest snores and I love her

Sadly Noodle’s prognosis is not looking good and she may not make it through this. My little bearded friend has showered me with love and affection since the day I got her. I chose Noodle because she was the chubbiest, happiest little chick in the bunch. I’m so happy I got to raise this smart little goof ball. She’s such a weirdo but she’s so full of love. Below is a picture of the day I brought her home and earlier today.

Love you Chicken Noodle

Here she is with her boyfriend Pharaoh who helped keep her calm when she was feeling really bad

Her boyfriend doesn’t even look real. he has a doll face. he was perfectly sculpted by the chicken gods.
